{Gardening on the Brain}

With the touch and go warm weather that Michigan has had lately, it has definitely put me the in the "gotta get outside and plant something" mood.

I'm revved up to give my yard a Spring makeover and have been looking for some inspirational fun ideas!

I think gardening is one of the most relaxing and rewarding experiences! To watch something you planted with your own hands grow into something beautiful:)

Do you have a garden? Do you love to plant flowers?

How adorable are these flower boots? Great recycling idea!!

An umbrella planter. A great conversation piece!

A very sweet bird feeder. Love the sound of chirping birds in Spring!

A gorgeous way to add garden lighting to your outdoor space:)

A great way to utilize under the deck space.

Happy Thursday.....& Happy Gardening friends....I simply cannot wait!

{June 1989: Double Feature}

My daughter Chloe had quite the busy week last week. She met with two area publications who were interested in doing stories on our new store, June 1989. I am more proud of her than I can even begin to put into words.

My favorite quote of Chloe's? "I just wanted to make some bracelets in memory of my brother Alex, I had no idea all of this would happen".

We would like to thank reporter Jenny Whalen for writing such beautiful words,and her interest in telling the story of June 1989.

You can read today's June 1989 story on Macomb Patch.

One of my "bestie blogging buddies", Sandy, is featuring June 1989 on her blog today with a Bracelet Giveaway!! Be sure to check out her blog and enter to win one of our most popular bracelets, Gun Metal Gray.

Follow the June 1989 Facebook Page and you could be chosen as our next "Fan of the Week" for a $15.00 credit in the June 1989 store!

{Rue Magazine: March/April 2012 Issue}

Maybe it's because I'm still swooning over the 2 hour season premiere of Mad Men last night, but I'm totally addicted to the latest edition of Rue Magazine. A few of these spaces totally have Don Draper written all over them!
Have you had a chance to peek at it yet?

Rue is a digital online magazine, a complete source of unbelievable inspiration for everyday stylish living.
Once you turn these 122 digital pages of amazing spaces and ideas you can actually use, you will be hooked. line. and sinker.

Is it me, or does it seem like home decor is getting back to basics and individual pieces are being showcased instead of complete decorating "styles"?

Whatever it is.....I like it. I like it alot.

Love the detail on the chairs. Great conversation area!
Functional, clean looking and airy! Love the 60's feel!
Wide open wood floors!!
The Mod chair, I die.
Floating bookshelves showcasing special pieces.
Love how the rug adds a "pop" of color!
Where to begin? I'd never leave this space because I'd be gawking at every nook and cranny!

{Mad Men Returns: Season 5}

l

After over a year and half being off the air, Mad Men Season 5 returns tomorrow, Sunday, March 25th with a two hour premiere at 9pm on AMC! Who in the heck is as excited as I am? This show quickly became one of my favorites and I was pretty dang PO'ed at the end of Season 4.
Do you plan on watching? Was it worth the wait?...........we shall see.

For those of you who are not familiar with the storyline:
Mad Men is about the lives of the men and women who work in an advertising agency in New York in the 1960s. The agency is enjoying success, but the advertising game becomes more competitive as the industry develops. The agency must adapt to ensure its survival. Don Draper is a talented ad executive at the top of his game, but the secrets from his past and his present threaten to topple his work and family life.
(and whoa is Don Draper a doosey!)

Who hasn't joined the Mad Men addiction? From hair styles, to clothing, home decor and dolls, it looks like many of us are feeling pretty "New York 60's" these days!

Want to live like a Mad Men character? Check out the Forbes Travel Guide for a list of hotels that are Mad Men decor inspired.

After a long day at the advertising agency, how about sipping on one of Mad Men's signature drinks, an Old Fashioned?

C'mon now, say it isn't so......you don't already own a Mad Men Barbie doll? Mad Men and Barbie joined forces and created character dolls!

Love the outfits you see on the show? Banana Republic carries a line of Mad Men inspired outfit pieces....pretty neat!

And if you really want to know the "411" on Don Draper.......he gets around !!

You know where I'll be Sunday night.......getting my "Mad Men" on!

(Blogger Link Love will return to it's regularly scheduled programming next Saturday)

{Food Friday}

l ll lll

Happy Friday!
Can you believe how fast this week has flown by? I'm not sure about you, but I have barely had time to catch my breath!!

Chloe and I are SUPER excited about the attention our new store, June 1989 is getting locally! We interviewed with a local publication on Tuesday, and tonight we are interviewing with one of our area newspapers....very cool! We will share the links to the stories once they are published.

Are you a Facebook fan of June 1989?
If you are, you would have seen this moving email we received from someone who purchased one of our bracelets....amazing.

"Me, not religious, has probably stared at the cross on my wrist as much as I stare at my daughter sleeping. These bracelets are not only beautiful, but full of strength & love. I look at mine thinking of Chloe, how much she has overcome, and you losing your precious baby. Please tell Chloe this bracelet is my happiness, as I wear it I am getting stronger & I realize life is too short & my life is up to me. I can keep it on the right track"

And with that, I share with you some of my favorite Pinterest recipes of the week!

{Red & Teal}

As far as I'm concerned, red & teal are just about the perfect color combination in my book!
I have always loved these colors separately, but combine them, and you have a sure winner!
Not only are they playful & fun, I adore the whimsy feel added to an entire room.

After waking up with one of the worst sore throats an adult should never have yesterday morning, I am currently taking a Zpack, hoping for the best!

Happy almost weekend!

Twitter Tuesday, brought to you by:Fleur d'Elise

Ladies & Gents, please meet my  blogging buddy of the  week,  Catie of Fleur d'Elise!

Catie is one of the very first bloggers I discovered a couple of years ago. I was instantly attracted to her blog because she has a style that each and every one of us can get inspiration from! (It also doesn't hurt that I love polka dots & stripes just as much as Catie does)
Catie has been featured on the
Forever 21 Blog  as well as Glamour Magazine! Go Catie! I'm super proud to call you friend!
Make sure you stop by her super fantabulisitc blog today and become a new follower....you won't be sorry, trust me:)

Catie currently lives in Seattle and has been blogging at Fleur d'Elise since July of 2010.  Her favorite fashion icon is Blair from Atlantic Pacific. (<-----VERY cool lady by the way:)
Catie's favorite patterns are stripes & polka dots, and her favorite time of day is the morning. Catie's favorite way to relax?  "Sitting at a cafe with a magazine and a latte... and possibly a croissant :)"

Let's learn more about my super sweet Twitter Tuesday Buddy!!

What was your initial goal for your blog when you first began, and how has that changed today?
Catie   I didn't really have a solidly thought-out goal. That's not how I roll; I'm horrible at planning. I just knew I wanted to do it. I've gotten better at planning (it's easier when you have real ideas). I know I want to style and be part of the blogging world, and I want to work with companies. Looking back, that's mostly what I wanted to do when I started. It was just in my subconscious then.

Where do you draw your fashion inspiration from?
Catie:
Right now, I get a lot of it from other bloggers and magazines. If I see something I like, I adapt it and put my own spin on it, of course. Also,being out in nature and/or listening to music is very inspiring. It doesn't provide direct fashion inspiration, but general, creative inspiration. It gets my creative juices flowing.

Describe your personal or decorating style
CatieThis is always the hardest for me to do. I like clothes that make sense, so usually I wear really classic styles: pencil skirts, oxfords shirts, striped boat-neck tops, etc. But really, all an outfit has to do for it to make sense to me is tell a story. My favorite is "...a girl in a French cafe, circa 1952"

How many hours a day/week do you spend working on your blog?
Catie Probably too many. I really should go back to school, but I've never felt so dedicated to something. I'm always excited about; I am always in a blogging mood. Being a natural procrastinator, any time I find something I can get myself to do regularly and in a timely manner, well, I don't want to discourage myself from doing it!

Where is your favorite place to shop?
CatieH&M and J.Crew, when I have the money.

What "must haves" will you be adding to your Spring wardrobe?
CatieI'm on the look out for a nice pair of cat-eye style sunglasses. Hopefully not too expensive. Oh, and a new purse!

What is your favorite piece of clothing, and why?
Catie:
My classic blue oxford shirt. I love the color and have a thing for collars, so naturally it's my favorite. Also, it's perfect for those days when you feel lazy, but need to look at least slightly pulled together.

Do you have any advice for new bloggers who are just getting started?
Catie:
Keep going! Don't feel discouraged if you don't gain a 1000 or even 10 followers after the first month. Like anything, blogging takes time and effort. While you're waiting for people to "come around" and read your blog, go read other blogs, make friends, do some networking. You won't make it as a blogger if you don't really immerse yourself in the culture of blogging! Get a Twitter account, a FB page,  join all the blogger platforms, and write, write, write!

If you have a career besides blogging, what do you do?
Catie:  Usually, I would say "Ugh." but I'm actually content with my job(s) right now. I'm a property manager, which can either be really easy and slow or really stressful and hectic. I also nanny 2 days a week and drive another boy to school, tutoring, library, etc. Whenever I'm asked what I do I always wanna say "Kids, stay in school. At the very least, so you can explain your work in one word."

Please share with us something we would never guess about you. IE; a favorite hobby, a talent, a quirky habit:
Catie:  I accidentally had dinner with Bobby Kennedy Jr. and his family. It's a long story. They have a real nice house, though.

Where did the name for your blog derive from?
 Catie:
   Firstly, my middle name is Elise. Secondly, my mom was born in a little town called Doremy in Northeast France; the same town that Joan of Arc was born in. She was baptized in the same church that Joan of Arc was baptized in. There are even claims that she may be a distant relative (something about the same last name). My mom, sisters, and I feel a strong connection to her. My mom and sisters got Fleur d'Lis tattoos, to symbolize a connection to France and Joan of Arc, but I'm terrified of needles, so I just named my blog after the symbol.

Where do you see yourself in 2 years?
Catie:
   Probably just pregnant, haha. I got married last year and we've got it semi-scheduled LOL

Thank you so much Catie, for allowing me to feature you as my Twitter Tuesday Friend:)
