Twitter Tuesday, brought to you by:
You don't have to actually know someone forever to feel as if you have:)
Those are the most perfect words I can use to describe my friendship with Carrie.
I visit her blog everyday, peek in on her little corner of the world, and never leave without a smile on my face. I've even been known to chuckle aloud as I'm reading through some of the funniest posts I've ever seen. She has such a unique and clever style of writing, it will definitely leave you wanting more. In addition to her being down to earth and lovable, her fashion sense is always "on the money". Go take a peek at her blog,  you'll be asking yourself  "Carrie...where have you been all my life?"
Carrie currently lives in Southern California and has been blogging at This Free Bird for about ten months.
Carrie loves the colors charcoal, white, and varying shades of blue intermingled with orange. In the past couple of years, she has been getting more into colors like purple and green.
How about we just say "confused" or constantly changing?  Hence this free bird. hehe
Carrie doesn't have a favorite icon per se, but she loves looking back to Farrah Fawcett, Katherine Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, and Mrs. Roper.  She also keeps a watchful eye on how Isabel Marant and Gaby Basora style their collections.
Carrie's favorite time of day is mid to late afternoon when the afternoon sun is streaming through the window.  "It's absolutely beautiful and peaceful.  Everything just stops."
Her favorite way to relax: I practice quiet time - absolute silence.  I read a quote recently that really resonated with me.  It said 'God speaks in the silence of the heart.  Listening is the beginning of prayer."   I have practiced silence for about 10 years.  And my favorite time is in the afternoon when that sun is shining in the window.  I try to find 15 or 20 minutes to just sit or lie down in silence.  Very therapeutic.  That and acupuncture.  Okay that's two ways.

Let's learn more about my super sweet Twitter Tuesday Buddy!!

What was your initial goal for your blog when you first began, and how has that changed today?
My initial goal.  You know I don't know if I had a specific goal.  I've been an Executive Recruiter in Retail/Consumer for about 10 years and have been very fortunate to work as a Consultant to a large well-known firm.  One of the main Partners I work with was always encouraging me to write a book.  She has been a true mentor and sounding board; someone I really respect - and she was just one of many people in my life who were telling me to "write it down" - crazy stories and what have you.  For years people have stopped me to ask about my outfits or where I bought something, how I styled something, etc.  - since I wasn't sure how to go about writing a book I started blogging.  I would say that goal remains today - it is a great way to document your life and remember the most intricate moments.

Describe your style
This is tough for me because I'm a bit of a wardrobe schizophrenic.  The pendulum swings between boho-chic and classic/basic prep.  Is that close enough?  I'm a touch of Farrah Fawcett, a dash of Stevie Nicks, a pinch of Janet Wood and Mrs. Roper meets Olivia Palermo, Lauren Hutton and Jackie O.  I'm all kind of in love with different styles and it just depends on my mood - you'll see my outfits run the full gamut.  I also really identify with Keri Russell - one day she's jeans and a T, the next dressed her own way for a red carpet.  She's comfortable in her own skin.

Where do you draw your fashion inspiration from?
Carrie: So many different places.  I love the 70's.  That era really speaks to me so I most definitely look up Farrah Fawcett and Woodstock and hippies.  Stevie Nicks and Mrs.Roper knew how to do it right, too.  But then I also find myself looking through old books, magazines and movies, watching street style, meandering through flea markets and, recently, thrift stores.  Anthropologie is not really my style - they carry beautiful things, but it doesn't always look right on me.  Nevertheless it is one of my favorite places to sit and watch the colors mix.  I often leave with outfit ideas or ideas on things I hope to find that I don't even know exist.  I also get a lot of inspiration just from being outside in the open air.

How many hours a day/week do you spend working on your blog?
It varies with my work schedule.  If I have a crazy busy search load I can only do maybe an hour or two a day tops. If it's slower I can do 4 to 6 hours.  In a week I bet I spend 20-30 hours on my blog between planning posts, taking pictures and writing.  I write more than most bloggers on the fashion side anyway.

Where is your favorite place to shop?
I don't have any one favorite.  I love Target, Free People and Shopbop, but I also love flea markets and thrift stores. For the past 4 or 5 months all I want to do is search for unique thrifted items.  I need a thrifting buddy.

What "must haves" will you be adding to your Spring wardrobe?
Printed silk jumpsuit/pants, silk dress - both from Tucker - it's my one constant non-thrifted desire, pleated neutral skirt, chambray blazer, crochet vest, maxi skirt/maxi dress, probably a pair of platforms, and a wideleg pair of cream pants.  Currently eyeing a grey cashmere boyfriend blazer, but the verdict is out.  Also something orange.
What is your favorite piece of clothing/jewelry and why?
I am a huge fan of Isabel Marant and recently had the opportunity to purchase one of her leather vests - a runway piece - at a private sale.  I know people might be thinking - "whoop-de-do!", but it was a big deal to me.  I have watched her collections for the past couple of years and really found myself.  Everything she creates is just so very me, but the price point is so far out of my reach on her runway items.  To receive that invitation, almost not go out of sheer fear of the prices, muster up the courage, get there and see that one loan vest hanging in my size just waiting for me...I held my breath and didn't even look at the price when I slipped it on.  It was like everyone else in the room disappeared and it was me, the vest and the mirror.  Hahaha!! I joke, but it is so true.  Then the woman organizing the event told me so many women had wanted it, but couldn't fit in it.  I tell you it was meant to be - and it was 80% off.  Hel-lo!  I will have that thing for the rest of my life and always remember that moment.

Do you have any advice for new bloggers who are just getting started?
Be yourself and don't worry about what anyone else is doing.  Find your voice and be true to yourself.  Write about what you love, invest the time, and be patient.  If you are passionate about what you're writing the rest will flow smoothly.

If you  have a career besides blogging, what do you do?
Carrie: Executive Recruiter, Retail/Consumer/Apparel

Where do you see yourself in 2 years?
I have no idea.  I don't give myself those kind of projections because you can never tell where life will take you.  I've learned that the hard way.

Thank you so much Carrie, for allowing me to feature you as my Twitter Tuesday Friend:)
